i have a decent job earning 1500 per month because of my poor credit rating i could not get mortgage .and i could not get house for rent also. i have to find rented houses through friends ,still hard to find in right time.can the council help me with that? i have been adviced by a financial advicer it take years to get back to my good credit rating .or any one can tell me how to get mortgage with very poor credit rating.
You will struggle, the main thing you should be focusing on doing is saving AS MUCH of that income as possible, a larger deposit on a house and 6 months good rating, saving etc through bank statements will make you as eligible as anyone for a small house. I advise going to halifax and explaining the situation to them and not a broker.
Renting will have to do for now, offering extra security such as a larger deposit than requested and supplying bank statements (edit the details out) will also help. With that income you will be very low down on the list for a council house, depending entirely on where you live.
Best of luck
the problem with bad credit is they will likely to charge you more interest on any loans, have you talked to your bank?
you can go onto the council housing list but it varies how long you will have to wait, the advantage of council is the repairs etc are done for you so you havent got to worry about when boiler breaks down etc
im sure there are lots of private accomodation that will accept you like findaproperty.co.uk
have a look in your local paper for property to rent also. private lndlords are not thatworried about your credit history, they are more worried about getting there rent
have a look at gumtree.co.uk and vivastreet.co.uk also, theres usually property there too

Basically, I’m afraid that you are screwed! Council housing is only for people that are on benefits (lazy people). It may be worth speaking to them though as they may be able to point you in the direction of a local housing association that might be able to help you out. They may not be able to do anything, but it’s got to be worth a try! There are mortgage lenders out there that will lend money to people in your situation, but generally you wouldn’t want to go there as the interest rate will be astronomical, and it is likely that you will require a massive deposit. Good luck with whatever route you choose to take.

Anyone can apply for a council house… so yes. A credit rating can improved in a less that a year depending on what the credit is….. if u have gone thru an IVA, bankruptcy or similar, then its 5yrs.
You could get a mortgage, if you have a guarantour… if u know someone who will agree to guarantee the payments with the mortgage company then u will be fine. I did this when my 84yr old grandma bought her house… altho technically, we were paying the mortgage on her behalf.
* council housing is NOT only for those on benefits etc.. thats cr*p!! many law abiding hardworking people have council homes!

Well you can certainly put your name on the waiting list.
You’ll have a very, very long wait though, as the government seems determined on housing half the populations of Poland, Pakistan and Somalia first.

at the moment, if you are not a druggie, alcoholic, asylum seeker or a pregnant teenager, there will be no chance of you getting a council house as they are prioritised first. A friend of mine had been sleeping on his mates couch for a month (basically he was homeless) after separating from his wife and had applied for a council flat. They just laughed at him and told him there was no chance of him getting a local housing authority flat even tho he had the finances to pay for it as his name was at the bottom of the list and his mate had asked him to move out! Dont get your hopes up

The council doesn’t care if you can financially afford their property, you need to be in need of one of their properties. You can afford to rent privately and there are many estate agents that would look over the credit report if you had a deposit and months upfront rent. You can apply for the council but as a single person with no independents and can afford to rent you will be placed in the lowest band and it will take a long time. You should look into housing associations like places 4 people, part-buy & part-rent companies etc, and also there is people out there that would give you a mortgage but it would be at a high rate.
