I am moving to California. How much of my gross salary will I keep after state and federal taxes are deducted?

I would like to make a cost of living calculation related to getting a mortgage etc… so figuring out how the amount of salary paid in taxes and social security contribution each month is key.

  1. It depends highly on your tax bracket and the number of deductions that you are going to claim on your W-4. It’s about the same as your regular tax rate, if that helps. If you have a mortgage, you can probably claim an extra deduction or two. It’s going to be around 20-40% depending on the things mentioned.
