What should I do if I think my mortgage company faxed my requested information to someone else?

I received another customer’s faxed payoff request with his personal information. I had requested a payoff request and my financial institution faxed me someone else’s. I’m concerned that mine may have been faxed to him. All of my information could be in someone else’s hands, therefore my personal information could be at risk. What should I do?

  2. Report the error to them asap and make a call to your state’s consumer protection’s division of banking or the state’s Department of Banking for info on what you can do.

The other individual may be honest like you are but they may not so you should contact the credit agencies too. The Mortgage company should provide you with identity theft services for a period of time.

  3. nothing you can do. Unless your personal information fell into the hands of identity thieves who profited and you could prove it, nothing. Let the company know they screwed up. I wouldn’t trust them with my mortgage if they messed up a simple thing like this.
But, let’s be fair, it happens. Nothing is lost. Don’t go nuts.
Learn from it. Check your credit report frequently. It’s your responsibility to check anyway. It’s the prudent thing to do.
