My fiance and I are first time home buyers who would like to permanently reside in Massachusetts.
Seems like so many people are getting screwed with their mortgages these days and I’m scared as hell to start looking.
Can anyone help that has done a lot of research recently and recommend a good mortgage lender?
I would go through a mortgage broker. They approve you and then they sell your contract to a service provider. If the rates get better they will inform you of that and transfer service for you.
Also, credit unions have good rates, check there.
Check Union National Mortgage. I am not sure if they are regional or national but they are really helpful.

I have had some pretty good luck with Countrywide Home Loans. You can also check out Quicken Loans, although they tend to resell the mortgage right after you sign the papers.

If either of you have any military service try USAA.
Many lenders are brokers and it is serviced by another company, read all the fine print that should be more than enough you keep you out of hot water, dont buy more than you can afford.

the answer depends on credit score available funds to close and other factors you do not mention in your question but a good company is city financial, WAMU or if you want I can qualify your loan and do it for you no obligation . The most important thing you shuld get is a GFE and have them quote you a rate before you do the loan
