My now ex-girlfriend let her house go into foreclosure, even though she is sitting on an 80,000 dollar bank account. Could the mortgage lender sue her and win the money she owed them on the home loan?
Yes. The lender foreclosed. They sell the house, if the amount is less then what she owes, the lender will sue for that amount.

You betcha! And if she tries to hid the money, the can go after her for criminal fraud – not paying a debt when you have the assets to do so.

Yes they could and they might.

Of course the lender can sue (unless your ex lived in CA or similar, where non-recourse loans are common). If she had a conventional recourse loan and has $80K in cash, she can EXPECT to be sued.
