if i get a 1099 from my mortgage lender, do i still get a 1098?

i havent received my 1098 from my mortgage lender, but i got a 1099…do i still get a 1098 or is the 1099 all i’m getting?

Your supposed to get both of them, I would call the mortgage lender just to make sure and I would also contact my CPA or tax preparer for 100% confirmation.

I’ve never received a 1099 from a mortgage lender. What was it for? A 1099 reports money paid TO you while a 1098 reports interest paid BY you.

I guess if state law requires lenders to pay interest on impounds then you’d receive a 1099 covering that, but you’ll also receive a 1098 for the mortgage interest (and maybe points & MIP) that you paid.

Many lenders send you a statement in lieu of a 1098 (or even 1099) that shows all interest, property taxes, insurance, etc. paid. If you received that statement, use the information from it to prepare your return. Otherwise contact your lender and request a duplicate 1098.
