Tax Software or a Tax Assesor?

I am married, 2 children, daycare, mortgage, charitabile contributions. Which should I choose and why? My own tax software I buy or go to someone to do my taxes?

P.S. I’ve read about these tips on taxes, child tax, etc. are they all legite or is it just a way to get an extra buck?

Sounds like you have an uncomplicated tax return. I suggest that you buy TurboTax and do your tax return yourself. You’ll get a rebate to pay for filing electronically and a free download for your state return, assuming you have to do a state return. The software will also walk you through the itemized deductions and answer you specific questions about what is and is not deductible.

  1. Something like TurboTax would probably lead you through it, but if you’re nervous at all about it, a preparer might be the way to go. An option if your income is around $40K or less is to find a VITA site in your area – it’s a program sponsored by the IRS where trained, certified volunteers would do your taxes at no charge. Most sites efile. For more info see http://www.irs.gov/individuals/article/0,,id=107626,00.html

Most of the "tax tips" articles are legit. If someone claims that they know of things hardly anyone else does and can get you a bigger refund, they are almost surely NOT legit.
